My love for food and travel has been a constant thread through every season of life. Seventeen years ago, Morocco kindly took us in and quickly became our adopted home. We still return regularly to Langebaan, a breezy coastal town in South Africa that remains close to our hearts. Living between these two places—each with its own rhythms, flavours, and traditions—has deepened my curiosity about how food connects us through culture, memory, and community.
Now that I’m an empty nester, I’ve found time and space to pour my energy into the things that light me up: cooking, writing, photography, and cultivating a more sustainable way of living. My current hobbies include the usual midlife-empty-nester suspects—vegetable gardening, pasta making, sourdough baking, and fermentation—some with more success than others!
I’m passionate about discovering places through their culinary traditions and ingredients. I believe in intentional travel and thoughtful tourism—experiences that honour local culture, support artisans and small producers, and my travels more often than not, begin in a local market. Spice Nomad is where I share these stories, flavours, and discoveries from around the world.
